BLAENAVON WORLD HERITAGE CENTRE
Blaenavon’s Industrial landscape became a World Heritage Site in December 2000. Thought to be the birthplace of the industrial revolution, it is the best starting point to gain some context. The ironworks, which dates back to 1789, includes 18th and 19th century furnaces, casting houses, calcining kilns, workers cottages and the iconic water balance that dates back to 1839. The big Pit, a real mine transformed into a National Museum provides a realistic experience to visitors.
